If the computer is connected to a docking device (docked) such as the optional Media Base or Battery Slice, undock it. CAUTION: To disconnect a network cable, first unplug the cable from your computer and then unplug the cable from the network device. Disconnect all network cables from the computer.
CAUTION: To avoid damage to the computer, use only the battery designed for this particular Dell computer. Do not use batteries designed for other Dell computers. Connect any external devices, such as a port replicator, battery slice, or media base, and replace any cards, such as an ExpressCard.

Removing the Battery Follow the procedures in Before Working Inside Your Computer. Perform the following steps: a) Slide the battery release latches into the unlock position. b) Push and remove the battery from the computer. Installing the Battery Slide the battery into its slot until it clicks into place. Follow the procedures in After Working Inside Your Computer.
Removing the ExpressCard Follow the procedures in Before Working On Your Computer. Perform the following steps: a) Remove the screws at the back of the computer and flip the computer over. b) Remove the screws that secure the keyboard to the computer. Perform the following steps: a) Slide the keyboard and flip the keyboard over [1] and [2] b) Disconnect the keyboard cable [1] and [2] and lift the keyboard to remove from the computer [3].
Removing the Base Cover Follow the procedures in Before Working Inside Your Computer. Remove the battery. Perform the following steps: a) Remove the screws that secure the base cover. b) Slide the base cover towards the front of the system and remove it from the computer. Installing the Base Cover Slide the base cover into its slot until it clicks into place.
Lift up the memory module and remove it from the computer. Installing the Memory Module Insert the memory into the memory socket. Press the clips to secure the memory module to the system board. Install: a) base cover b) battery Follow the procedures in After Working Inside Your Computer.
After removing the hard drive, perform the following steps: a) Remove the screws that secure the hard-drive bracket. b) Remove the hard-drive bracket from the hard drive.
