    Preparing the Camera Installing the Battery and SD Card Write Protect Tab The SD card has a write protect tab. Sliding the tab downward prevents recording of data and protects existing data (e.g. images). When recording to, erasing from or formatting the SD card, slide the tab upward.

    Formatting an SD Card You should always format an SD card when you wish to use a new one, or when you wish to delete not only the images in the SD card but also other data. Formatting an SD card will permanently erase all data already on it, including all of its protected images.
