Installing a Zip Drive
Use the following procedures to install a Zip™ drive in your PowerMate desktop computer.
Note
Use the following procedures along with option installation information in your printed
NEC PowerMate user's guide.
If a printed user's guide did not come with your system, see the online PowerMate user's guide. If
you are using the online user's guide, be sure to print out the information before you begin the
installation procedure.
Zip Drive Configuration
Before you install the Zip drive in your system, prepare the drive for your system configuration
as follows:
T
Check your current system configuration for devices cabled on the primary and secondary
IDE connectors.
T
Check the master/slave jumper setting on the drive. See the printed jumper setting
information on the Zip drive. The drive ships set as a slave device. Set the Zip drive for
your new IDE drive configuration.
The Zip drive set as the slave device on the secondary IDE connector is an appropriate
configuration if you have a hard drive set as the master device on the primary IDE connector
(default setting) and a CD/DVD-ROM or CD-RW drive set as a master device on the secondary
IDE connector.
If you have two CD/DVD-ROM or CD-RW drives already installed on the secondary IDE
connector, set the Zip drive as the slave device on the primary IDE connector.
See your PowerMate user's guide for other IDE configurations.
