Each socket can be filled with a single 32-bit-wide, 72-pin DRAM SIMM. You can configure DRAM as a mixture of primary or main memory, which is reserved for the CPU, and shared memory, which is used for data transmitted or received by modules and WAN interface cards.

    You can configure the router to boot from either image. In order to upgrade the ROM on the Cisco 3631, you will need to have a ROM image file available to copy from a remote server or internal flash memory.

    Do not remove the Flash memory card while it is performing a read or write operation, because the router will shut down. Perform this procedure to remove a Flash memory card: On Cisco 3620 and Cisco 3640 routers, grasp the card near the slot and pull it straight out. (See Step 1 Figure 5-31.)
