the device to the Acceleration Pool. The Read Flash Cache feature requires its own
dedicated Acceleration Pool.
About this task
Note:
A maximum of two SSDs can be configured as DAS Cache.
To designate an SSD as a caching or acceleration device, follow these steps:
Procedure
1. If the device is currently being used for storage, remove the device from the
Storage Pool, as described in "Removing devices".
2. For Read Flash Cache only, at Protection Domain level, enable caching, as
described in "Setting Read Flash Cache policy at Protection Domain level".
3. In the Hardware view, right-click the SSD device that you want to add, and
choose Add Acceleration Drive.
4. In the Add Cache Devices window, select the Cache type that you wish to use.
5. If you are adding a device to an Acceleration Pool, in the right pane of the
window, select the desired pool.
6. Click OK.
7. For DAS Cache only, at Storage Pool level, enable caching as described in
"Enabling and disabling DAS Cache at Storage Pool level".
Results
The SSD device is now configured as a caching or acceleration device, and will no
longer appear in the list of devices shown in the Backend > Storage views. In the
Hardware view, the type of caching provided by the device is shown below each
device, and in the associated Physical Device Properties sheet. For Read Flash
Cache and other acceleration features, further configurations are required in the
Backend > Acceleration view.
About this task
To stop caching on a specific SSD device:
Procedure
1. In the Backend > Storage window, right-click the Storage Pool that the device
is caching, and choose Set DAS Cache Caching Policy.
2. Select the Don't use DAS Cache option, and click OK.
Caching is stopped on the Storage Pool.
3. In the Hardware view, right-click the SSD device, and choose Remove
Acceleration Drive.
4. In the Remove Cache Devices window, click OK.
The SSD device has been removed from the caching pool.
5. If there are other devices still in the system were defined for DAS Cache use,
you can now restart caching by returning to the Set DAS Cache Caching
Policy window mentioned in Step 1, and change the setting back to Use DAS
Cache.
